I often look back on the days of yore, long before we lived in Lake House Land and had Data Warehouses with JSON or JSONB columns that were just another column in the database. Life has gotten more complicated since then.

If I think back far enough and hard enough, I can remember cutting my teeth on a “Data Lake.” It was a beautiful and terrible thing, millions of JSON files deposited daily into S3 buckets. What more could a lonely Data Engineer ask for?
